Answers to common questions you may have. (Top FAQs)

  • Who will receive the refund?
Every AAA policyholder in 12 states–including Georgia, Iowa, Michigan, Nebraska, North Dakota, Tennessee, Wisconsin, South Carolina, most of Illinois, Minnesota and northern Indiana, and Florida (including Florida Package policy)–with auto insurance in effect on April 30, 2020, will receive a 20% policy refund applied to two months of auto premium, for April and May. If you purchased an auto policy through AAA but it is underwritten by another carrier, you will need to contact that carrier about a refund.

Refund applies to the premium as of April 30th, 2020. The refund does not apply to statutory assessments.

  • When can I expect to see my refund?
Customers can expect to receive their refund by May 31, 2020, pending regulatory approval. We will begin issuing refunds in the coming weeks, after we have received approval from state insurance regulators.

  • How will I get my refund?
Depending on your policy, the refund will be issued as a premium credit on your policy or in some instances as a check mailed directly to the Primary Named Insured.

  • Does this refund affect my coverage or rates at all?
No, the refund has no impact to your coverage or future rates. Future rates are based on expected future costs. For that reason this is a one-time refund that will have no impact on future rates.

  • The refund is for two months. Will I get two separate refunds?
No, you will receive one refund that includes the full amount, which equates to 20% of your April and May premium amount.

  • What if I am an essential worker who drives my car to deliver critical goods?
We are extending our auto insurance coverage—at no additional cost—for drivers who are using their personal vehicles to deliver food and medicine. Although coverage for food delivery is currently excluded from auto policies, we will provide applicable coverage for claims from Personal Auto insureds involving delivery of food, medicine or other essential goods for losses occurring while emergency orders are in place. This does not apply to drivers who otherwise have coverage or are working for a transportation network company or similar delivery company. In the event of a claim, a AAA claims representative will determine coverage at the time a claim is filed. This change is in effect through June 30, 2020, and we’ll continue to evaluate as this situation progresses.

  • Besides the auto premium refund, what are other ways customers can save on their auto insurance bill?
Customers can talk with their AAA Insurance agent about other ways to save.

Information for our Michigan Insurance customers:

  • Does this refund affect the No-Fault MI Auto Insurance Reform law taking effect July 2, 2020?
No, the COVID Hardship Relief endorsement from AAA and the new law are exclusive of each other.

  • Will I still need to make changes to my auto insurance Personal Injury Protection Allowable Expenses on July 2, 2020?
Yes, under the new law you will still need to select your coverages when your policy renews. Please call your AAA Insurance agent to make arrangements accordingly.

We Continue to Support Local Communities

AAA – The Auto Club Group has also been heavily involved in efforts to bring relief to our local communities. We are assisting those on the front lines by providing free roadside assistance services to healthcare workers and first responders.  Additionally, our roadside assistance drivers have been delivering meals and medical supplies to hospitals and first responders throughout our footprint: we have helped donate and deliver nearly 3,500 meals and contributed over $50,000 to support those on the front lines; and we donated Samsung tablets to a Detroit-area hospital to enable isolated patients to connect with loved ones.

Finally, we’re also partnering with the American Red Cross to aid in their relief efforts by holding a weeklong blood and donation drive for our employees, members and customers with the goal of contributing $100,000 and 900 pints of blood during this crisis.
